This past weekend was Homecoming Weekend at my school, which means it was also the weekend for Pigskin Revue (basically an annual musical revue).  My mom came to see me perform this year, which was exciting.  I loved having her around, even if it means I didn't participate in most of the Homecoming activities.  So yeah, overall the weekend was nice.  It's so weird that this year's Pigskin Revue is the last time I will perform with Sing Alliance ever, though. I have been in the group since spring semester freshman year, and for several months of every semester since then, it has pretty much been my life. But since I'm studying abroad next semester, I had to check off "Do not intend to return" on our Intent to Return slips a couple of weeks ago. It made me so sad! At least now that it's over for the semester, I'll have quite a bit more time.

Hmm...what else has been going on?  I've finished everything for the Fulbright and Teach for America applications. I think my Fulbright interview went well, though it was rather scary being questioned by four professors (with one more sort of facilitating). I've never done an interview with that many people opposite me before.  I admit, I wasn't prepared enough for some of the questions on Korea. But I think I was able to make it sound like I knew more than I did. And they did give me some pretty good tips on improving my application essays.  There was a bit of a scare right before the app was due when I found out that one of my recommendations hadn't come in yet, but it came in right at the last minute. Whew!

For Teach for America, I got invited to a phone interview at the end of September, which was exciting.  The phone interview went ok, but it was really awkward. The interviewer was typing down notes the entire time, and didn't really give me any indication that he head what I was saying. There were also these long pauses after I spoke (at first, I just kept talking, since they made me nervous), and the questions he asked sounded so scripted (for example, asking me a question even if I'd just answered it as part of another question). I thought I did ok afterwards, but as time went on, I became sure that I hadn't made it past that stage.

To my delight, I was invited to a final interview! I went to that interview this past Wednesday. It was a pretty big deal, and involved a sample lesson plan, a group activity, an individual problem solving activity, and a personal interview.  I did my lesson plan on Fact vs. Opinion. Unfortunately, my board was messed up in the rain, but at least I had all the important info on my worksheets as well.  I also had these cards I made with "Fact" on one side and "Opinion" on the other that I had my "students" (i.e. the other interviewees) hold up when I read them statements.  I was a bit more unorganized than I would have liked (mainly due to being flustered at the beginning because you only have a minute to prepare), but I think it went well overall. And it was fun to see everyone else's lesson plans.  The personal interview I thought went well, too. The only problem is that, like after the phone interview, the more things I realize I could have done/said differently. I know it's useless to second guess myself, but I can't help it!  I would REALLY love to get accepted, but I'm trying not to get my hopes up. I should know by November 10 whether or not I've made it...

What is Teach for America? Is it teaching overseas?

It's actually teaching low-income students inside the US for two years.
