My new obsession? Creating and naming colors, palettes and patterns.

For example, inspired by this photo on flickr, I got this palette and this pattern:

bookaddict88: (Senrid)
Ok, I know not many people read this, but to those of you who do:

Senrid is available for pre-ordering! Senrid is a YA fantasy story written by the amazing author, Sherwood Smith (aka [personal profile] sartorias  ). If you've read Crown Duel or Inda, Senrid is set in the same world, Sartorias-deles. (And if you haven't read either of those two books, they're also great!) It's a fun and exciting book, which I know because I've read one of the drafts when it was posted on [profile] athanarel. And if you buy it, you'll also be supporting a new press. Oh, and a warning: it's a hard-back, so it's not cheap. I know I won't be able to buy it for awhile yet, since I'm on a college student's budget.  If you can afford it at all, I think Senrid is definitely worth the money. However, if you just can't spend $25 on a great book, then convince your library to get it, and you can read it anyway!

On the same note, Inda's sequel, The Fox comes out in August! I'm even more excited about that one, because it's one I haven't read yet!

A couple of people have asked for a very basic tutorial to use with the free program PhotoPlus.  They weren't LJers (at least that I know of), but I figured this was as good of a place as any to put it so I can link to it.

**********

Ok, first, I recommend that you take the tutorial that comes with the program, as it helps a lot. Also read as much of the "Help" stuff as you can (most importantly “An overview on key concepts”, which you can get to from the main help screen by clicking “How to…”  then “Get Started with PhotoPlus”).

However, the help isn’t going to teach you specific techniques. For example, it’ll teach you how to do all the individual steps you need to do to make a blend, but it won’t teach you how to put those steps together to actually blend. So this is where experimentation comes in, as well as finding tutorials.

In the following tutorial, I’m going to teach you how to do a simple blend. It’s really detailed, so hopefully it makes sense!

I've learned how to add custom brushes on Photoplus! So expect a new batch of icons soon. (Soon being a relative term...)

And finally, here are the things I either made for myself or for no one in particular.

I guess that's it...for now. When I make more "works of art," they will be posted here. So stay tuned!

Here are some things I've made for others!

Anyway, then I got PhotoPlus, and it was a lot of fun.

Ok, before I had PhotoPlus, I used MS Paint. It was really annoying, and I couldn't do much, but I made do. Here are a few of the things I made for some RPs I was/am a part of:

My "art"

Not that anyone reads this, but I decided to start posting the icons, message board banners, and other "art" I've made here.  Mostly just to get it all in one place.

Anyway, I use Serif's PhotoPlus 6.0, a free program that can be downloaded here. It's not as nice as Photoshop or Paint Shop Pro, but it costs a whole lot less.  I'm still learning to use it, so none of the stuff I post here is going to be that great.  But hey, practice makes perfect, right?

Oh, and in case someone actually does read this, and for some reason wants to use anything I've posted here, please credit.  And don't use anything I've said I've made for someone else without asking.

That's all for now!
