Favorite Books!

I recently applied to join
booklisters, a book discussion group. To apply, you have to list your favorite 15 books, then answer questions other people ask (these questions are mostly about the books you listed). Anyway, I thought I'd include the list here for fun! They're my top 15 books at this moment, since I often change my mind about which books are my favorite. I didn't include any author more than once, since it helped narrow the list down. Choosing my top 15 books is hard! Picking my favorite authors or series would have been easier (maybe I'll list those sometime later).
In alphabetical order:
![[profile]](https://www.dreamwidth.org/img/silk/identity/user.png)
In alphabetical order:
- The Bible
- Dealing with Dragons by Patricia C. Wrede
- The Fox by Sherwood Smith
- The Horse and His Boy by C.S. Lewis
- The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner
- Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
- The Lost Prince by Frances Hodgson Burnett
- Much Ado About Nothing by William Shakespeare
- The Princess Bride by William Goldman
- Rilla of Ingleside by L.M. Montgomery
- Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead by Tom Stoppard
- The Squire's Tale by Gerald Morris
- Where the Sidewalk Ends by Shel Silverstein
- The Wizard's Dilemma by Diane Duane
- Young Miles by Lois McMaster Bujold
I was actually quite surprised how many of these I chose in good deal for their humor! Less than half of them are chosen for that reason, but the number was still larger than I expected. I don't usually go looking for funny books, but apparently, when I find one that makes me laugh, it tends to become a favorite!
Anyway, what are your favorite 15 books (it doesn't matter if they're fiction, nonfiction, poetry, or whatever else)? And of course, you're free to ask me questions about my top 15 books if you'd like!

Date: 2008-04-23 01:13 am (UTC)I had a spiffy little list all put together last night, and then I fell asleep and when I woke up this morning my computer was off and everything was lost, soooo...
I think this is a fun topic (hooray for list-making!), and I do plan to answer, once I stop being annoyed at this blasted computer. >-(
P.S. Yes, totally, on the Bible. Favorite, most important book. Not going on the list, though, cause I need that space!

Date: 2008-04-23 02:39 am (UTC)And I know about what you mean by the Bible and space on the list! If I were making this list for my own pleasure, it probably wouldn't have made the list, because the rest are all fiction. But I decided to include it for my app on that community, since it is very much one of my favorite books.

Date: 2008-04-26 03:34 am (UTC)I haven't read about half of the books on your list, though there are a few that this list reminds me of that I've been meaning to read.
I did start Beauty, but wasn't able to finish it though I've liked the other McKinley books I've read so far. People have told me to give it another try, though, so I think I will.

Date: 2008-04-24 09:35 pm (UTC)You liked The Fox the best of Sherwood Smith's works, too?
Trickster's Choice is probably my favorite Tamora Pierce book. It just barely missed being on my list! I think Pierce would make it on to the favorite authors list for sure, though, and maybe onto the favorite series list. I LOVE her books as a whole, but no individual book quite made the top 15 books list.
Out of curiosity, why do you like Voyage of the Dawn Treader best of the Narnia books? That's not one most people I know would say is their favorite, though they might say it's one of their favorites.

Date: 2008-04-24 11:36 pm (UTC)It was a toss up between Crown Duel, Over the Sea, and the Inda series. Since I like the Inda series the best at this moment (*waiting impatiently for July*) and I like The Fox the best out of those so far...well, that's how my logic worked out.
I think one of the best things about Tamora Pierce's books is that the series all match and it's really one long story about Tortall than just about the characters. I must say, I like her Tortall books much better than her Circle of Magic books, though I like those too. I love Aly as a character, so I tried to pick the book I liked best with her in it.
Voyage of the Dawn Treader has always been my favorite Narnia book, and I think the main reason is because it's based on a ship. I'm obsessed with the ocean, and it tends to leak through. Other than that, I like it because it shows the world that Narnia's in and the characters in the story are fully part of that world, not just learning about it. I think I like The Horse and His Boy for the same reason, which is probably the second on the list if I'm going to rate them...maybe even with another one of them. I think of Voyage of the Dawn Treader also as the last book about Narnia before things start to come apart at the seams. I like The Silver Chair, which comes after, but I've always sensed a bit of darkness lying in wait in that book, just ready to pop out for The Last Battle which I didn't like too much.

Date: 2008-04-26 03:30 am (UTC)I prefer Pierce's Tortall books over her Circle of Magic books as well, though I still love the Circle books. I like the fact that they're all set in Tortall, as well, partly for the same reason why I like all the books set in Sartorias-deles. Hmm...there's another list: top fantasy worlds/alternate universes/etc.
