I am currently sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for my Borders (Amazon) order of 4 paperback books to come in. And they probably won't be here for another week and a half, because I just ordered them last night. The thing is, I don't even have time to read them once they come in (I'm STILL behind on schoolwork), but I'll disregard that and devour them anyway.

Sunday night, I was looking to pre-order [personal profile] sartorias's King's Shield: Book Three of Inda, since I seriously can't wait for that book to come out and I do have a $20 Borders Gift Card.  But of course, you can't just buy one book. You have to take advantage of the free shipping for orders over $25! And then they have that 3-for-4 offer for books under $10, which is really too good a deal to pass up. But did I mention I'm impatient? After searching for more books to order, I got so excited about them that I couldn't wait to get them. Unfortunately, King's Shield comes out in the summer, so I'd have to have it shipped home instead of to my school. But in order to take advantage of the free shipping, everything has to be shipped to one place. I'm not going to be home until May, so even if they ship the non-pre-ordered books before July, as I think they do, I'd have to wait to get my books until after school's out. And that just wouldn't do.

So I held off on buying King's Shield, which was my whole reason for browsing for books in the first place. (I WILL pre-order it though, just not yet...) Instead, I ordered The Princess Bride: S Morgenstern's Classic Tale of True Love and High Adventure by William Goldman, The Other Boleyn Girl by Philippa Gregory, Young Miles by Lois McMaster Bujold, and The King of Attolia by Megan Whalen Turner. Free shipping is calculated before the 3-for-4 deal is, so I still don't have to pay for it to be sent to me. But wait, that's not the end of the story. When Amazon sent me my confirmation e-mail, I realized that The Princess Bride isn't in stock, so I'd have to wait at least a week longer if not more to get all of my books. Well that wouldn't do. I'd have to buy something else, and maybe buy The Princess Bride when I pre-order King's Shield. So I canceled that order, then ordered the other three books again along with Guards! Guards! by Terry Pratchett.  And now I'm waiting with bated breath for the books to come in (they're supposed to ship out on Monday). So yes, there's my impatience, my twisted reasoning, and my addiction to books all summarized in one incident.

Anyway, about the books I ordered.  With my limited budget, I usually only buy books I've already read and loved. The Princess Bride and The King of Attolia fit into that category.  Sometimes, I'll also buy books by favorite authors, which is why I'm looking to pre-order King's Shield.  But I'm always looking for new books and authors, and since I had a gift card, I wanted to buy books I hadn't read before.  The other three books (The Other Boleyn Girl, Young Miles, and Guards! Guards!) are all books I haven't read but were by authors recommended to me by readers whose taste I trust (including the people over at [profile] athanarel ) .  I've read a good deal of The Queen's Fool by Philippa Gregory last summer, and I do want to see the new movie based on The Other Boleyn Girl, so buying the first book made sense.  However, I've read nothing by Bujold or Pratchett, so I thought it was time to remedy that.
