Traveling can be such a pain...
Ugh. I went home for the weekend, and enjoyed the fact that I got to see my family and my brother's soccer game and musical. Unfortunately, however, I ended up spending more time traveling than I spent at home. Friday was the first time I've ever had an airplane take off from one airport, and then land in that same airport. It was supposed to be a short flight into Dallas, but Dallas was experiencing really windy weather, and we'd have to circle for half an hour - which we didn't have enough fuel to do. With other delays and cancellations, my entire trip home took 12 hours instead of the expected 6. Thankfully, I didn't have to spend the night at the airport, because there are several airports in Southern California. I was able to catch a delayed flight to another airport near my house, where my poor dad picked me up from at 2am. We had to pick up my luggage the next day, though.
Then, on Sunday, my flight from DFW to the city where my school is located was canceled. Fortunately, this time the cancellation was due to mechanical reasons, and so they put me up in a hotel for the night. I finally got back in late this morning, having missed both of my classes for the day. I had an exam in one of those classes, too. But I'd e-mailed my professor, and now he's letting me take the test tomorrow.
So yeah, things could have been worse, but they were bad enough as it was!
On a different note, here's a meme from
valkeakuulas: Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.
1. Redwoods - I love forests. And so, I'm lucky, because California is home to some magnificent redwoods, such as the Giant Sequoias and the California Redwoods. There aren't any particularly close to me (at least, that grow naturally), but I've seen them a few times, and just, wow.... If
valkeakuulas (or anyone else who wants!) ever comes to visit, we shall have to take a trip up to see them!
2. Morocco - I went to Morocco last summer with a group from my church, and was able to co-teach a two week summer school class. It was an amazing experience. Granted, my kids were way out of control, but even then, I still enjoyed teaching them overall, and am now definitely considering the possibility of a career in teaching. Plus, Moroccan art and architecture is absolutely beautiful, the food is really yummy, the people there were so welcoming to us, and it was very interesting to see a culture so different from my own. I'd LOVE to go back someday.
3. Books - With a username like
bookaddict88, could you guess that I love to read novels? I especially love fantasy, but anything with strong character development, and perhaps humor or complex world building is sure to catch my eye. I don't read too much non-fiction, though, unless its by listening to an audiobook, which is easier for me. Speaking of audiobooks, I've been listening to a lot of them recently, especially since discovering that both of the libraries I use at home allow me to download them from their website, and that I can listen to them on my phone even when they're DRM protected and won't play on my iPod. Most recently, I listened to Paladin of Souls, by Lois McMaster Bujold, which I thoroughly enjoyed. The last book I actually read myself was Naomi Novik's His Majesty's Dragon, which I downloaded free off of Suvudu. Their strategy of offering the first book in a series free was totally effective, as now I must read the rest of the Temeraire series!
4. California - Home. I've lived in Southern California all my life, except for these past few years while I've been at college. It's a beautiful state, with wonderful weather, though I do wish we actually had seasons.
5. Mail (because of
holiday_wishes ) - I do love getting mail, though I don't get too much of it. I'm pretty bad at sending people mail back, though! I bought TONS of postcards and stamps in Spain last semester, for example, but actually sent out a grand total of 4 postcards.
...So, it got short at the end, there, because I really need to start studying. Oh well...
